Question: Does it matter how tall I am?

Answer: For our magazine photography assignments, we don't have the same rigid height requirements most fashion models and modeling agencies have.  This means you can still model even if you are under 5'9" tall!

Question: How old must I be to model for Shooting Stars?

Answer:  Female models need to be between the ages of 12 years and up to age 50 to qualify for the various editors we work with.   Male models need to be 15 to 50 years in age.

Question: I'm looking for more information about your company. Can you send me some?

Answer:  Actually there are lots of pages about print modeling here that will tell you all about what we do and what we have done for other models!

Question: Do you have references I can check?

Answer:   Sure!   The first thing you can do is call our offices and talk to a real  live model representative at (217) 345-2200.  They are available to speak with you 9am to 5pm Mon. - Fri. (Central Time Zone).   Please note we are not open holidays.   Next you may call and confirm that we are an upstanding, caring company by calling  the Charleston Chamber of Commerce at (217) 345-7041.   They can give you a complete history of our 20 years in business!    We also have an excellent rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Why won't we give you other models' numbers to call as references?   Well let's say you are the other model in this case and we have 10 or 15 models calling your house every day asking you all about the modeling opportunities you have done with Shooting Stars.   It would drive you and your family crazy after the first day, let alone a month.   The staff at the Charleston Chamber of Commerce is prepared to handle your questions about a professional business they know personally.  Again their number is (217) 345-7041.

Question: I have braces, can I still be a model?

Answer: Sure you can.  Two reasons why.   One, braces are a fact of life for most teens today and they don't carry the stigma they once did in the real world.   Two,  some clients want a model to show their braces in the photograph.  Why?  The readers of the many magazines can often identify with the model in the magazine.  Also, the art of digital retouching has allowed clients to take them out of the picture when you are smiling and have braces.   Some models are amazed to see themselves without braces in a magazine when they knew they had them during their magazine model photo session.  Cool!

Question: Do you accept just anyone?

Answer:  Absolutely not!   We reject far more people than we ever accept.   Sorry, but we have to.  We want only people who our magazine editors would be interested in working with.   Actually the look that's in can change in just six months, so if your look isn't in this year, it might well be in demand next year.    If you aren't model material for Shooting Stars, we will tell you the straight truth whether you agree with us or not.  We don't hold formal modeling auditions.

Question: I really want to model, but my Mom says no!   Can you convince her to change her mind?

Answer:  Maybe, but we would never do it!    If your parents say no they don't want you to be a model, we will always abide by their wishes no matter how cute you are.   They know what's best for you even if we think you would make the cutest fashion model we've ever seen!   We will always respect the decisions your parents make on your behalf and so should you.

Question: Do you accept male fashion models for promotion to your clients?

Answer: Sure we do! They need to be between the ages of 15 up to age 50 to qualify.

Question: Can I choose the modeling opportunities I want to do?

Answer: Sorry, you will be chosen by the client.   Clients we work with do not hold formal modeling auditions.  They publish the magazines and so they get to choose who they need for their editorials and covers.   It is no different for major modeling agencies like Elite Modeling Agency and Ford Models.  Their clients choose the fashion models they need, not the other way around.  The good news is that our models are able to either accept or decline any fashion modeling opportunities that they're given so that they're in control of their schedules, preferences, etc.   Some models only want to work during the summer or 2-3 months out of the year.

Question: Will I have my travel paid for me?

Answer:  That depends on the client.   Some will pay all your travel to and from the magazine  modeling assignment.   Some will even pay all the expenses for one parent as well if you are under the age of 18!    What a nice vacation filled with excitement and fun!   There will also be other situations where the client just doesn't have it in their budget to pay the travel.   You have the right to accept or reject any modeling assignment.   Our advice: If you are a new model about to begin a modeling career, accept all the modeling opportunities you can get even if you do have to pay your own travel.   Consider this:  What you will pay in travel to real print modeling jobs is a fraction of what it would cost you to attend modeling school and you still get on-the-job modeling experience and training.   It will be worth far more than the cost to get here!   Once you have really progressed as model, then you can pass on the modeling jobs that don't pay what you deserve and just take the ones that are the real money makers.

Question: Who are the clients that will see me?

Answer:  All types, but we do not work on any magazine assignments involving nudity,  Period!   Clients can range from magazine editors, top corporate clients like IBM and AT&T, cosmetic companies like Max Factor and Revlon, clothing designers, advertising agencies, plus lots more!  Clients will see you from the photos you send us and not by any modeling auditions.

Question: How much will I make as a model with Shooting Stars?

Answer:  You can make up to about $125.00 an hour.   Some fashion models have made as much as $2,000 for a 2 day modeling as a secondary fitness model in a fitness workout video. Other fashion models have made as much as $500.00 an hour doing a magazine editorial about teen dating!   All print modeling jobs pay different amounts based on what's in the client's budget for models. Obviously, the bigger the client, the more they usually pay.  Catalog models will make between $75.00 to $150.00 per hour. You will know up-front what you will be making before you do each modeling assignment.  We will not hold modeling auditions to select you for these modeling jobs.

Question: When I appear in a magazine, will I get copies?

Answer: You sure will if it is at all possible.  We often get pre-released copies of your magazines modeling opportunities before they even get to the stores.  If we do get extra copies we will send you magazine tearsheets for your portfolio.  Any additional copies you want, you  will need to buy on your own from your local newsstand or supermarket.

Question: If I work with Shooting Stars, can I model for anyone else?

Answer:  You can model for anyone you want.  Your arrangement with Shooting Stars is non-exclusive which gives you complete freedom to work with any client you like.  That allows you to be signed with other modeling agencies like Ford Model Agency and Elite Modeling Agency at the same time.

Question: I'm thinking about going to fashion modeling school. Should I do it?

Answer:  Only if it's something you really want to do for fun.   Modeling schools won't necessarily help you get any additional work.   Major modeling agencies like Elite Modeling Agency or Wilhelmina do not require you to attend any modeling schools.  Practical experience is the best way to learn how to be a model.  Very few modeling schools teach anything other than fashion tips, runway model tips and if you are less than 5'9", you won't have the chance to do any serious work as a runway model anyway.   As for print modeling jobs, few modeling schools ever teach more than a roll of film in fashion print modeling!   For thousands of dollars, you have to decide if it's worth it to you.   Some of the best modeling schools you can check into are Barbizon, John Robert Powers and John Casablancas modeling schools.

Consider this for just a moment.   I can't remember the last time a client who wanted to book a model asked if the model had ever been to any modeling school.  Most likely you would be much better off spending your money getting the real tools you need begin getting modeling assignments!
